Be part of supporting radio astronomy projects from around the world

Mission Statement

The Global Emerging Radio Astronomy Foundation (GERA Foundation) is tasked with finding and directing resources to endorse innovative astronomy through the help of donations, sponsorships and community support

Projects

Kilimanjaro Telescope Project

Kili.png

Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895-m) has excellent conditions for submillimeter astronomy. GERAF is involved in the planning and construction of a new observatory on the Mawenzi peak (5100-m) in partnership with the Tanzanian government. The observatory will be reached by Gondola so that visitors of all physical ability may enjoy spectacular views on their way to and from the observatory.

Construction of a 3.7-m Radio Telescope for Promoting Astronomy in Nigeria

The University of Nigeria has produced several prominent radio astronomers. In order to increase the capability of the University to train young researchers and produce its own science GERAF has facilitated the purchase and installation of a 3.7-m radio telescope at the University in partnership with the Centre for Basic Space Science.

Observing with the Nobeyama Radio Telescope

From next year the iconic radio 45-m diameter radio telescope in Nobeyama, Japan, will require astronomers to contribute directly to operational fees for the running and upkeep of the facility. By helping to raise funds GERA Foundation will lead observational research into the gas environments where stars are born with the aim of endorsing the observatory through new discoveries and financial aid.  Meet the team

GERAF was formed in response to the recent trends for much of the available resources in radio astronomy research being funnelled into large projects. While these large projects are indeed essential to furthering our understanding of the the universe we must also safeguard smaller facilities and projects which are still making groundbreaking discoveries and provide essential training for the next generation of radio astronomers.
Our team consists of radio astronomers who share a common goal to source resources for initiating new observing facilities in addition to supporting existing sites and projects so that they may be maintained, upgraded and kept in service to radio astronomy.
