James is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Space Research, North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom, South Africa. He is actively involved in the commissioning of various capabilities of the ALMA telescopes, Ghana 32-m telescope, the MeerKAT telescope and now the NWU 4-dish interferometer (project lead). He worked as East-Asian ALMA Regional Center at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan as Project Research Fellow and subsequently, as a Project Assistant Professor. He then moved to the University of Nigeria as a Lecturer for 2 years and after which he joined South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO, formerly known as Square Kilometer Array SKA South Africa) as a VLBI Commissioning Scientist.

James is an integral part of the Pan-African School for Emerging Astronomer (PASEA) https://www.paseaafrica.org  formerly known as the West African International Summer School for Young Astronomers (WAISSYA) aimed at developing critical mass of young astronomers in West Africa and Africa at large. He assisted the International Astronomical Union by teaching in the biannual International School for Young Astronomers (ISYA). He is also a key proponent in training African future astronomers through the Development in Africa through Radio Astronomy (DARA) project (https://www.dara-project.org) which has now trained more than X programme participants and has driven an economical boom in the region around the converted Kuntunse radio observatory thanks to infrastructure and development funding from DARA and SARAO.

James is an experienced radio astronomer and has many influential publications to his name including several publications in the journal Nature.
